This may be the all-time great checkmate collection, with forced checkmate positions culled mainly from actual play. And Reinfeld's selection is simply marvelous, touching on all the important tactical themes.

Do I need a chess program?

No, the files are a textual file in the .pgn format and basically every chess website has the possibility to read the .pgn file. Although having a chess software definitely helps.

But I don’t have Chessbase, what can I do?

I would suggest downloading ChessBase Light 2009 which is free. There is no other way of converting .cbv files into .pgn.

Alternatively, if you really want an analysis of a specific game in .pgn, you can contact me via email or facebook or quora or anything. Contact information is given on our home page.

What is your motivation behind it?

Look, I love chess, I love analyzing chess games and I like promoting our ancient game. I analyze chess games basically the whole time, so I thought, perhaps someone else might find my work useful as well.

Also, I have heard a thing or two about personal branding and having “returns” on the things you give. Indirect marketing and stuff.

There are many tactical problems on the internet in pgn format - both from books and people who individually collect them.

One in particular I downloaded is 5334 problems - from Polgar - and it is in pgn format. It would be way easier if I could solve the puzzles on the computer and see the solution immediately instead of searching it in the book page by page.

Is there any way to use this pgn file like - for example - find mate in one - and when you make the wrong move it says wrong move or something simular and when you make the correct move it moves on to the puzzle?

I tried with chessbase 11 and it just shows the puzzles as games, and in the notation board it shows the solution right away. - Plus i have to load each puzzle separately.

In chessmaster it's similar situation - when you go file-open - and load - there is this pgn file opener - with the list of all 5344 problems and you can load them as separate games.

In both cases you can move whatever you want - without telling you if its right or wrong.

A few years ago I don't know where from or what was it but i downloaded a pgn file with tactical exercises i think it was 1001 - i don't remember - and when i loaded it chessmaster - i could try to move any piece anywhere but it would return the piece back into its original place if it was the wrong move - if it was the right move it would go on to the next exercise.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.
